water-cooler.JPG I just came across a site called Glassdoor that allows you to browse employee reviews on companies and check out self-reported salary information. Anyone can look at partial reviews, but in order to view full reviews you need to become a member (it’s free) and either give a company review of your own or share your salary information. It’s an interesting concept and a resource that can potentially add value to a job search. Uncovering a company’s culture is an important part of the job search process. Job seekers who research companies tend to do better in interviews and make better decisions about company fit and potential. While these types of sites can’t offer hard empirical data, they are certainly a nice complement to a job search program and besides that, they are a lot of fun to surf. I’m headed back to the Glassdoor “water cooler” so I can read the inside scoop on some of my favorite companies.
